NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at Calgary

Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Mikael Backlund scored 4:24 into overtime as the Calgary Flames grabbed a 4-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks in Game 3 of their Western Conference semifinal series.

With a delayed penalty call on Anaheim, the Flames got Karri Ramo out of the net for an extra attacker and controlled the puck in the Anaheim end.

Backlund received a pass from Dennis Wideman at the right point and slid over to the high slot where his big slap shot found its way through a maze of bodies for the victory.

Johnny Gaudreau tied the game late in regulation while Joe Colborne and Brandon Bollig also scored for the Flames, who still trail the best-of-seven series, 2-1. Ramo finished with 18 stops.

"That's what we talked about before the game," said Ramo. "Win this one and we're right back in it."

Corey Perry, Patrick Maroon and Matt Beleskey all scored for the Ducks, who got 17 saves from Frederik Andersen in the loss, Anaheim's first of the playoffs.

"No team goes 16-0 in the playoffs," said Beleskey. "We need to regroup and get ready for Friday."

Game 4 is set for Friday night in Calgary.

Trailing by a goal, Calgary nearly tied the game with around 6 1/2 minutes left in regulation as Sam Bennett had a point-blank chance from the right side that saw Andersen kick it out with the right pad.

A length review was conducted to see if the puck crossed over the line, but the original call on the ice held up and the Ducks maintained their one-goal edge.

The Flames, though, got one more chance when a pair of matching minors followed shortly after by a delay of game call on Sami Vatanen gave the team a power play, and they made it a 5-on-3 after pulling Ramo from the net.

With time winding down, Gaudreau skated down the right wing and held up before drifting below the dot and beating Andersen on a short-side wrister with just 19.5 seconds to play to send the game to overtime.

Calgary came out strong in front of the home crowd and took its first lead of the series 2:07 in as Mason Raymond skated in down the right boards and held up before sending a pass to the slot where Bollig wristed it home.

The lead didn't last long, though, as Anaheim tied the game 4:50 later when a slap-pass from Vatanen at the right point went to Ryan Getzlaf, who one- touched it to the left side, where Maroon shot it home for his third of the playoffs.

Anaheim then took a 2-1 lead with 5:50 left in the first. Getzlaf knocked a Flame off the puck and skated to the right circle where he lost control. Simon Despres picked it up and skated behind the net and out the left side before sending the disc out front where it hit off the skate of Perry and went in.

The goal was briefly reviewed to see if Perry kicked it in, but the call on the ice was upheld and Perry had his sixth of the postseason.

Calgary tied the game while shorthanded 4:17 into the second as an Anaheim player fell in the high slot and Colborne went in on a clean break. Shifting from the backhand to the forehand, Colborne was able to stuff the puck in past the outstretched right pad of Andersen for his first of the playoffs.

Anaheim, though, took the lead back four minutes later as a backhand pass by Ryan Kesler from the right side of the net slid through two sticks and went to Beleskey, who one-timed it in for a 3-2 advantage.
