New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is suing ESPN and reporter Adam Schefter for publicizing his leaked medical records after a July 4, 2015, fireworks accident, as first reported by Julia Marsh of the New York Post.

The suit was filed in a Florida court on Wednesday and charges Schefter with improperly obtaining Pierre-Paul's medical chart - which included sensitive information about his finger amputation - and sharing it with his 4 million Twitter followers.

"This action arises out of ESPN reporter Schefter’s blatant disregard for the private and confidential nature of plaintiff’s medical records," the suit states, "all so Schefter could show the world that he had 'supporting proof' of a surgical procedure."

Schefter has admitted to not doing enough to protect Pierre-Paul's private information, but said he needed to show proof to corroborate his reporting.

The Miami hospital responsible for the leaks fired two employees they deemed responsible for the action.
