A Miami hospital fired two employees for releasing Jason Pierre-Paul's medical reports to journalists in July after the New York Giants defensive end suffered a gruesome hand injury in a fireworks accident.

Reports originally surfaced that Pierre-Paul suffered a horrific injury in a Fourth of July fireworks incident, but precise details were unknown. On July 8, ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted that ESPN had obtained medical records showing that Pierre-Paul's right finger was amputated.

Jackson Memorial Hospital released the following statement to NJ.com

During the investigation of a breach that occurred in July 2015, Jackson Health System became a party to related litigation. It is our policy that we do not comment during pending litigation. That litigation has now been settled. As part of our investigation into the breach, it was discovered that two employees inappropriately accessed the patient's health record. That finding resulted in the termination of both employees. Protecting the privacy of our patients is a top priority at Jackson Health System. Any time we have allegations of a breach, we immediately and thoroughly investigate.

Pierre-Paul returned to action in 2015, recording 26 tackles, a sack, and six pass deflections in eight games.
