The New England Patriots made their signing of veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne official Tuesday.

Wayne's deal with the Patriots is for one year and could be worth up to $3 million with incentives, including almost $500,000 up front, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Wayne, a six-time Pro Bowler, spent the previous 14 seasons of his career with the conference-rival Indianapolis Colts. He is the franchise's all-time leader in regular-season games played (211) and ranks second in career receptions (1,070), receiving yards (14,345), and receiving touchdowns (80).

The 36-year-old will have an opportunity to face his former team Oct. 18 when the Patriots travel to Lucas Oil Stadium.

New England has been plagued by injuries at the receiver position, with Julian Edelman, Brian Tyms, and Brandon LaFell all dealing with various ailments. The team also lost Brandon Gibson to a left knee injury in Saturday's preseason game.

The Green Bay Packers reportedly planned to reach out to Wayne if MRI results confirmed Jordy Nelson suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's preseason game, but will now have to look elsewhere.
