Report: Bills hoping to interview Rex Ryan

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills are hoping to interview Rex Ryan for their vacant head coaching position, as originally reported by Sal Maiorana of the Democrat and Chronicle and later confirmed by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network

San Francisco and Atlanta have also shown interest in Ryan, who was relieved of his duties by the New York Jets at season's end. The Falcons interviewed Ryan on Tuesday.

The Bills interest in Ryan is both warranted and somewhat puzzling. Ryan is a quality coach, but known mainly for his defensive acumen.

Buffalo's defense is one of the premier units in the league; its offense, however, needs work. The Bills' attack ranked 26th overall in 2014.

Even though Ryan is one of the top candidates available at the moment, an offensive-minded hire might make the most sense.
