2009 - Plaxico Burress sentenced to two years in jail

Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress is sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to weapons charges.

The charges stem from a shooting at a Manhattan nightclub, in which Burress accidentally shot himself in the thigh with an unlicensed gun.

Burress apologizes to his family and fans at his hearing, and thanks them for their support. "We will all get through this," he says.

1996 - Bill Parcells notches 100th regular-season win

Bill Parcells becomes the 22nd coach in NFL history to win 100 regular-season games after his New England Patriots defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars 28-25.

The Patriots finish the 1996 season at the top of the AFC East with an 11-5 record, eventually losing 35-21 to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XXXI.

Parcells leaves the team at the conclusion of the season - a decision that haunts him to this day.

In an effort to gain better free-agency rights, NFL players hit the picket lines following the second week of games.

The strike is called off by the NFLPA after 24 days without a new collective bargaining agreement.

"It was a good time, but it wasn't something I'm necessarily proud of," recalls Tim Burnham, one of the replacement players hired by the NFL. "Personally, I came close to not doing it out of respect for the Players Association, and what they were trying to achieve.

"But when I look back on it - like a lot of people who have crossed a picket line, for whatever reason - most of them are doing it not to be spiteful, but to simply give themselves an opportunity."
