The Carolina Panthers are reportedly likely to hire an interim general manager following the shocking firing of Dave Gettleman, and a familiar name has emerged as a potential candidate.

Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer suggested that former GM Marty Hurney, who was fired in October 2012 and replaced by Gettleman in January 2013, could serve as interim GM.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed that hiring Hurney is being considered.

Hurney left the Panthers in salary cap hell at the time of his firing, but he did hit home runs in the draft with the selection of players like Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly.
