Prescott wasn't surprised to see Romo retire

Many in the football world were counting the days until Tony Romo joined the Houston Texans prior to his surprising retirement decision.

However, Dak Prescott was not one of those people.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback made his first return to the Arlington area since losing out to the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs this weekend, and was unsurprisingly asked about his retired former teammate.

Prescott admitted that he knew calling it quits was on the table for Romo.

"I can't say that I was surprised," Prescott said Saturday, according to Jon Machota of Dallas Morning News. "He's got to take care of himself. He's had some injuries throughout his career. I just hope it's what he wanted to do...

"Obviously watching him throughout this year, learning a bunch from him, learning different ways to throw the ball, he's a great player and he's a heck of a competitor no matter what he does."

Romo admitted after his decision to join CBS that his relationship with Prescott could have been a lot worse if it wasn't for the young quarterback's high character. Prescott reciprocated the appreciation, thanking Romo for being an ideal mentor.

"Me and Tony, we've always been great throughout this whole situation, before the situation, when I came in, so nothing has ever changed," Prescott said. "That's something I'm very thankful for that me and Tony were able to manage to keep our relationship the same throughout everything that was going on.

"I'm happy. I hope he's happy. He made the decision to retire. He's had a great career and he's got some big shoes for me to fill and I'm going to try to come in and do a good job for the Cowboys."
