Romo wouldn't have stepped aside if Prescott wasn't 'a good kid'

It's hard to be mad at Dak Prescott - even if he did take your job.

Since retiring to join CBS, Tony Romo has opened up more about his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys, which included delving into his relationship with his young replacement.

The former Dallas quarterback famously lost his starting job after Prescott led the team on a lengthy win streak while the veteran was recovering from a preseason back injury. While Romo could have been filled with jealousy and envy, he said Prescott was too likable to feud with.

"It probably wouldn't have went the same way if Dak wasn't, you know, a good kid," Romo recently told SiriusXM radio, according to Jon Machota of Dallas Morning News. "He's very respectful. He's someone that wants to learn."

Romo held a press conference in mid-November - after being cleared to return from his injury - during which he handed the torch to Prescott and gave the rookie his blessing as the future of the organization. By that point in the season, Romo had seen enough to know Prescott was ready to take over.

"If you really just care about football. At the core, if you just love the game, I'm going to like you as a teammate," Romo said. "I'm going to root for you, I'm going to want to see you succeed and I'm gonna want to go out of my way to help you.

"He has the appetite to want to be great and he's got a skill set that's good. I think he's just going to continue to develop it."
