Landry predicts Dolphins will sweep Patriots in 2017

Jarvis Landry is confident the Miami Dolphins won't play second fiddle to the New England Patriots in 2017.

The wide receiver is so sure of his team's quality, in fact, that he predicted the Dolphins will sweep their AFC East rivals this upcoming season during an appearance at a fan event in London on Monday.

"If you're a competitor, that's the way you should feel, and I don't mind saying it," Landry said a day later to the MMQB.com's Peter King. "It's time for a change. I have all the respect in the world for the Patriots, and I respect Tom Brady tremendously. But they're not our big brother anymore."

Last season, the Patriots not only won their eighth straight AFC East title and took home the fifth Lombardi Trophy of the Brady era, but also beat the Dolphins twice, by a combined 28 points.

While it will be a tough ask to dethrone New England, Landry believes the presence of second-year head coach Adam Gase has closed the gap at the top of the division.

"He's flipped the switch with us," Landry said. "New England's won the division 14 of the last 16 years, something like that? It's ridiculous. It's a problem. We cannot let that happen anymore. What I've seen is, when we play that game, sometimes we focus on the guys on the other side of the line instead of just focusing on us. And I want to be part of that change. I want to go into the games against New England expecting to win - that's something we need to do."
