Vikings GM confirms Peterson won't return after Murray signing

After the Minnesota Vikings signed running back Latavius Murray this week, it was clear the door had closed on any potential reunion with Adrian Peterson - and general manager Rick Spielman confirmed that was the case on Thursday.

"With us signing (Latavius) Murray, Adrian will move on elsewhere," Spielman said.

The GM added that Peterson "is probably going to go down as one of the greatest Vikings."

Minnesota first released Peterson due to his $18-million cap hit for 2017, but appeared open to re-signing its longtime running back for the right price.

However, the Vikings opted to get younger at the position, signing the 27-year-old Murray to a reported three-year contract worth $15 million.

Peterson is now assured of playing for a team other than the Vikings for the first time in his NFL career, though he's reportedly not generating much interest around the league, and might have to wait until later in the offseason to find a new home.
