Murray has 'too much respect' for Peterson to wear No. 28

Latavius Murray is well aware of the situation he's stepping into by signing with the Vikings.

Despite wearing No. 28 during his four seasons with the Oakland Raiders and his college career at Central Florida, the newly signed running back hasn't even given a thought to asking for those digits in Minnesota.

Murray explained Thursday on Instagram that he'll be looking for a new number because he has "too much respect" for Adrian Peterson, and "there's no one like" the Vikings legend.

The message didn't go unnoticed by Peterson, either:

Adding Murray effectively confirms the Vikings won't be re-signing Peterson after exercising their opt out at the beginning of free agency.

The future Hall of Famer's time in Minnesota comes to an end after an incredibly productive 10-year stretch, with 2,418 carries for 11,747 yards and 97 touchdowns to set franchise records in all major rushing categories.

Murray lands with the Vikings on the heels of a 2016 campaign in which he tallied 788 yards and 12 scores for Oakland's sixth-ranked ground game.
