Report: Browns won't pursue Kaepernick

Despite reportedly showing interest in quarterback Colin Kaepernick last offseason, the Cleveland Browns won't pursue the impending free agent, a league source told Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

Kaepernick is still technically a member of the San Francisco 49ers, but will reportedly opt out of his deal Thursday.

Browns head coach Hue Jackson was rumored to be interested in Kaepernick last offseason before signing Robert Griffin III. Griffin is still under contact for another year, but the Browns could cut him with little financial repercussions.

Cleveland also reportedly showed interest in acquiring New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, but the Patriots are no longer expected to part ways with the 25-year-old, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

With few names available on the free-agent quarterback market, the Browns may be stuck with Griffin and Cody Kessler for another season if they don't choose to look for their starter in the draft.
