Any NFL team hoping to acquire Jimmy Garoppolo to shore up its quarterback problems will have to look elsewhere.

The New England Patriots are not expected to trade their backup quarterback, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, who cites a league source.

Garoppolo was expected to draw a fair amount of interest from a large crop of quarterback-needy teams. The Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns were among the clubs rumored to be interested in trading for the 25-year-old. It appears the Patriots will instead keep the three-year pro in-house for the final year of his contract.

Garoppolo is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next season. If he remains in New England through 2017, he'll continue to be the chief backup to Tom Brady who will be 40 years old when the Patriots next take the field.
