New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis has been injured after getting into an altercation on the south side of Pittsburgh over the weekend, according to his lawyers.

He was allegedly assaulted by a group of five people. Revis' lawyer says the cornerback feared for his safety and eventually received medical treatment. There is no update about specifics or how badly Revis was injured.

Revis' representatives, Blaine Jones Law, released a statement to KDKA:

Mr. Revis came home to Pittsburgh this past weekend to visit family and friends. During that time Mr. Revis went by a location in the Southside that he is in the process of developing. Mr. Revis was physically assaulted while at that location by a group of at least five people. Mr. Revis feared for his safety and retreated from the aggressors. Mr. Revis was not arrested after this incident. Mr. Revis sought medical attention as a result of the aforementioned attack.

However, Police are offering a conflicting account to Jones' statement.

A statement from Pittsburgh police said the incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. Monday. A 22-year-old male approached Revis, confirmed his identity, and began following him while recording the encounter on his phone.

Eventually, Revis grabbed the phone and tried to delete the video. Another male, 21, attempted to retrieve the phone from Revis, but the cornerback tossed the phone into the street, causing a verbal disagreement. A friend of Revis' approached the group and the two men were allegedly punched. They said the next thing they remember is waking up and talking to police. Officers viewed the video on the phone and identified Revis.

Both injured men were taken to hospital, one of whom had broken bones around his eye.

Charges are pending against Revis for robbery, terroristic threats, conspiracy, and aggravated assault.

Newsdays' Kimberley A. Martin spoke with Revis' lawyer Thursday night who insisted his client was not the aggressor in the situation. Revis' representatives said that they had reached out to police several times to offer his side of the story, but were not given the chance. Revis' lawyer believes an arrest warrant will be issued for his client in the next few days.

Revis is a native of Pittsburgh and played his college ball at Pitt.

The 31-year-old is the second Jets player to be physically harmed while in public this offseason as linebacker Darron Lee claimed to be attacked outside an Ohio bar in early February.
