Report: Chip Kelly meeting with Jaguars about OC position

Kyle Terada / USA TODAY Sports

While Chip Kelly reportedly was unable to capture the Jacksonville Jaguars' head coaching job, the team is apparently still interested in adding him to the staff.

Kelly is set to meet with the Jaguars on Monday regarding their offensive coordinator position, a source told Hays Carlyon of 1010XL.com and confirmed by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Nathaniel Hackett, who was promoted to OC after the Jaguars fired Greg Olson midseason, is also expected to be among the interviewees for the job, adds Rapoport.

Kelly was fired by the San Francisco 49ers after just one season in charge, and his coaching future has remained uncertain ever since, with some speculating he'd return to college.

However, Kelly has previously made it clear he intends to stay at the professional level and could attempt to work as an OC in order to earn another head coaching gig.

The Jaguars preferred to hire Doug Marrone as their new HC, but there's significant upside to also bringing aboard Kelly to reinvigorate their disappointing offense.

Jacksonville ranked 14th in points scored per game (23.5) last season, but the unit - mostly due to the poor play of quarterback Blake Bortles - severely regressed in 2016, averaging 19.9 points per game.
