Gurley stands by 'middle school offense' remarks after Fisher's firing

Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley defended his critique of the team's offense a day after head coach Jeff Fisher was fired.

Gurley lambasted his teammates following Sunday's 42-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, blasting the team for a perceived lack of effort and said the Rams played like "a middle school offense."

The second-year pro doubled down on his remarks Tuesday.

"At the end of the day, if anybody seen the game and seen the way we played, and seen the whole interview, then you know what I was talking about," Gurley said to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez.

Rookie quarterback Jared Goff said Gurley's comments didn't lead to Fisher's dismissal.

"I don't think that had anything to do with coach Fisher (being let go)," Goff said. "I think Todd was emotional. We all are. We're all frustrated. He just made some comments."

Gurley also expressed remorse for Fisher's firing.

"It was tough," Gurley said. "It was tough on a lot of guys. Coach Fisher, he did a great job. He brought everybody in. We loved him as a coach. We know a lot of people didn't, but at the end of the day we know what he did for us."

The Rams will need to rally quickly, facing the Seattle Seahawks on the road Thursday.
