Eric Dickerson: Rams' offense is 'boring as hell'

Former Los Angeles Rams running back Eric Dickerson is not impressed with his team's return to Hollywood thus far.

The opinionated Hall of Famer has watched his old team stumble its way to a 4-5 record with No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff waiting in the wings. Discussing Goff's debut coming this Sunday, Dickerson told SiriusXM NFL Radio that he's not expecting a whole lot of success in the early going considering the way the Rams have trended this season.

"Here is L.A., we have a defensive-minded coach, and we have an offense that is boring as hell," said Dickerson. "They throw outs, they throw checkdowns, they spread the field every once in a while."

Dickerson doesn't expect Goff to struggle just because of the dull offense. He sees a problem with an inexperienced coaching staff that includes second-year quarterbacks coach Chris Weinke and offensive coordinator Rob Boras, who spent the last 12 seasons as a tight ends coach.

"Then we have a quarterbacks coach - no offense - a quarterbacks coach, Chris Weinke, that's coaching our No. 1 pick, that we traded all these draft picks for," Dickerson said. "Show me the proof, show me what you've done, show me your history. What history do you have working with quarterbacks (and) developing quarterbacks?

"Then I could believe, and I just believe that they don't have the right coaches and that's what it comes down to: the coaching of a quarterback. You can't just throw a quarterback out there and expect him to play well."

Goff officially takes over the Rams' 31st-ranked offense for Case Keenum this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. While seven other rookie quarterbacks have thrown a pass already this season, 2016's first overall selection hasn't seen the field since struggling mightily in the preseason.
