Jerry Jones: Romo's back is healthy, but no rush to play him

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday a recent MRI on Tony Romo showed the quarterback's injured back has healed.

Jones said on 105.3 The Fan, via ESPN's Todd Archer, there is no more concern about Romo's compression fracture, and that the veteran passer's focus will now turn to conditioning and strengthening his core.

Romo was never placed on IR and is eligible to return to the lineup at any time. The Cowboys were recently reported to be targeting a Week 8 return.

Of course, that timeline could change if rookie quarterback Dak Prescott keeps winning games. Jones recently said that Romo remains the Cowboys' No. 1 quarterback, but there is growing momentum for Prescott to keep the job.

Jones suggested he's in no hurry to reinsert Romo as starter, calling it a "miracle problem" and saying the Cowboys "will play this thing out."
