Texans' Brock Osweiler: Coach downplays lackluster numbers

Houston head coach Bill O'Brien was not alarmed by Osweiler's performance in the team's preseason opener against the 49ers, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. Osweiler completed 4-of-7 passes for 27 yards and a 65.8 passer rating.

Analysis:

It's no surprise that O'Brien would not admit concern after his newly minted starting quarterback could not generate points in three drives. Other than one medium-range pass to DeAndre Hopkins, Osweiler's attempts were short throws in the five-yard range, as the overall game plan could be described as "vanilla." "We ran the ball quite a bit. We threw some quick game. He had one fade ball to DeAndre that was close. The DB made a really good play on it," said O'Brien.
