Tom Brady wasn't expected to play in the New England Patriots' preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night, but now it turns out he won't even be at the stadium.
The team announced that Brady has been excused from the team to attend the memorial services of a family member.
The development means backup Jimmy Garoppolo won't be able to fall back on the two-time league MVP's sage advice.
Jacoby Brissett is the only other quarterback on the Patriots' roster.
