Report: Patriots planning to sit Brady for preseason opener
With the New England Patriots preparing for the first four weeks of the season without Tom Brady, the club is planning to sit the veteran quarterback for the preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints, a source told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
The move is presumably to give Jimmy Garoppolo increased reps, with the third-year pro set to start the first quarter of the season due to Brady's suspension stemming from the "Deflategate" scandal.
Last season, Brady reportedly convinced the Patriots' coaches to allow him to play in the preseason, even though he was facing the same four-game suspension, notes Garafolo.
But with the ban seemingly set in stone, after Brady dropped the legal fight, it makes sense for New England to give Garoppolo every snap possible.
