Titans' Mariota not pleased with scrimmage performance

As is the case with many elite-level athletes, Marcus Mariota evidently has the ability to be his own worst critic.

The Tennessee Titans' second-year quarterback took full responsibility for the offense's struggles in a training-camp scrimmage held Monday night, telling reporters he must correct his turnover issues.

"It's unacceptable, my play today," Mariota said, according to Jason Wolf of The Tennessean. "I can't be turning the ball over like that. I've got to be putting these guys in better situations. But all in all I'm glad we were able to come out and finish the drives that we did, and we had a pretty good red zone (drill) as well."

Tennessee will have another month of practice and exhibition games before the regular season gets underway, so there's certainly plenty of time for Mariota and the rest of the offense to iron out the issues.

If a stellar rookie season can be taken as any indication, there's no reason why some continued progression won't soon have Mariota considered among the NFL's top quarterbacks.

The former Oregon standout started 12 games after joining the Titans as the No. 2 overall pick in last year's draft. He completed an impressive 62.2 percent of his passes for 2,818 yards and 19 touchdowns over that stretch, also adding another 252 yards and two scores on the ground.
