Bengals' Tyler Eifert: Progressing in recovery from ankle woes

As training camp approaches next week, the Cincinnati Enquirer relays via a league source that Eifert's rehab -- as the tight end bounces back from an ankle procedure -- "is on schedule and progressing as planned."

Analysis:

While the report infers that Eifert hasn't endured any further setbacks with the injury, which dates back to the Pro Bowl on Jan. 31, a concrete timetable for his return to full action has yet to be outlined. Initial estimates suggested that the Bengals hoped to have Eifert available to start the coming season, but the report acknowledges "there remains the possibility he could miss games should the rehabilitation process take longer than expected." Some degree of added clarity with regard to Eifert's progress should surface as camp rolls along, but at this stage it's too early to get a good read on how much impact the tight end will be ready to make out of the gate in 2016.
