Bendtner accepts Wolfsburg fine for oversleeping, tardiness

Nicklas Bendtner has admitted that he was handed a fine by Wolfsburg for sleeping through his alarm and turning up 45 minutes late for Monday's training session.

The former Arsenal striker has previously expressed his disdain at being effectively frozen out from first-team affairs this season, and has been in trouble with the hierarchy of the Volkswagen-sponsored club after posing with a Mercedes on Instagram.

And now the devious Dane is struggling to get out of bed in the morning.

"I just slept in and didn't hear my alarm," the 28-year-old admitted to Bild, as translated by the Guardian. "It's my mistake."

Bendtner has often been the butt of jokes during his career for struggling to match up to his lofty self-praise, and his playing days have been hampered further by manager Dieter Hecking not deeming him suitable for the Wolfsburg matchday squad for each of the last six outings.

The forward was looking for an escape route from Lower Saxony in January but was unable to find any suitors. His contract is up in the summer of 2017, but it's likely that Bendtner will be available for a cut-price fee at the end of the current campaign.
