'Unhappy' Bendtner could leave Wolfsburg in January

Nicklas Bendtner is "unhappy" at the lack of first-team opportunities afforded to him at Wolfsburg and hasn't refuted reports he could leave during the January transfer window.

The forward - who was once rumoured to have scored 10 out of nine in a self-confidence test during his time at Arsenal - had been subject to reports suggesting he could grace English football with his presence once again.

"My situation is clear. I am unhappy," Bendtner told Bild's Daniel Peters, via Stephen Uersfeld from ESPNFC. "Everyone can add up the numbers. We played a total of 53 matches in 2015, and I started five of them."

The 27-year-old still has 1 1/2 years left on his deal, but said, "My situation is undoubtedly unsustainable," to Mads Kindberg Nielsen from Danish newspaper BT, as translated by ESPN.

Both a permanent and loan deal could be a possibility, with Bendtner enjoying successful temporary spells at Birmingham City and Sunderland in the past.

Bild also reports striker Bas Dost could leave Wolfsburg after falling down the pecking order under manager Dieter Hecking. Max Kruse was preferred ahead of Dost in the previous four outings.

Newcastle United is alleged to be interested in Dost, as well as Alexandre Lacazette and Loic Remy.
