Redskins finally release RG3
The Washington Redskins have released quarterback Robert Griffin III, according to multiple reports.
It was perhaps the greatest inevitability in all of football that Griffin would exit the Redskins organization. With a new league year now days away, the time came to set the 2012 second overall pick free.
The Redskins reportedly held on this long in hopes that a team would trade for Griffin, but that didn't happen.
At least 10 teams are rumored to be considering signing him now that he's available.
Griffin started his career with promise, leading the Redskins to the playoffs and taking home Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after throwing for 3,200 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions and adding 815 yards and seven touchdowns with his legs.
He tore his ACL in a wild-card loss to the Seattle Seahawks and was never the same player again. His next three seasons in Washington included clashes with his coaches, a major ankle injury, and multiple benchings.
Despite being healthy, Griffin was inactive for the entire 2015 season and watched Kirk Cousins lead the Redskins back to the playoffs.
