Rockies' Weiss defends facility, players after Tulo barb
Add Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss to the list of team personnel upset with recent comments made by former franchise player Troy Tulowitzki.
Weiss quickly responded Monday after Tulowitzki ripped the team's state-of-the-art spring training facility in Arizona, suggesting it wasn't the best environment for players to excel and get focused for the upcoming season because of its country club atmosphere.
"We have a nice place here and we're proud of it, but our guys are mentally tough and they compete," Weiss told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. "I have no issue with our guys being soft or country-clubbish. Our guys are the opposite of that.
"It's a great facility. It's beautiful. We talk about gaining a competitive edge because of this facility. A facility doesn't change their mentality. We've got guys who work hard, play hard, and compete extremely well."

Rockies All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado also took exception to Tulowitzki's 'country club' statement, and didn't like how he used the media to throw barbs at the club.
Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, which is also the spring home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, boasts six practice fields, an 11,000 square-foot weight room, and many luxurious amenities, including a 108-person theater.
Tulowitzki earned five All-Star nods and two Gold Gloves while playing for the Rockies from 2007-2015 before being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays last July.
