The third- and fourth-ranked golfers in the world appear set to provide an exciting showcase prior to the 2016 U.S. Open.

Quicken Loans is reportedly finalizing details for Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler to take part in a prime-time match at the Detroit Golf Club on June 7, one week before the U.S. Open at Oakmont, a source told The Associated Press.

The match, yet to be announced, will feature a "celebrity component," according to the source, where the event would be "Team Rory" against "Team Rickie."

The first two hours of the event would air on Golf Channel, while the 9 p.m.-11 p.m. ET slot would be broadcast on CBS with golfers playing under the lights.

The format of the event is yet to be determined.
