Fantasy Spotlight: Starlin Castro
Throughout the month of March, theScore examines hitters who represent their team's most intriguing fantasy plays. This edition focuses on New York Yankees infielder Starlin Castro.
2015 in Review: 578 PA, .265/.296/.375, 52 R, 11 HR, 69 RBI, 5 SB
The Good: Castro's counting stats and batting average were solid enough in 2015, and he's had at least 65 RBI all but one of the last five seasons.
The Bad: He rarely walks, which keeps his OBP down despite a respectable career .281 batting average. He's also stolen only 18 bases across the last three seasons after registering 25 in 2012.
Best Comparison: Texas Rangers SS/OF Ian Desmond
What's in Store: After spending his entire six-year career with the Cubs as a shortstop, Castro was traded in the offseason to the Yankees, where he's expected to start at 2B and fill in around the infield when needed.
A move from baseball's 16th-ranked offense in terms of runs scored to the second should help Castro's counting stats, and projections show increases in runs, HR and RBI. He's largely stayed healthy throughout his six-year career as well, with only two seasons where he played fewer than 151 games.
Draft Outlook: Thanks to his offensive prowess and positional versatility, Castro should be selected midway through most mixed league drafts. His star somewhat faded as the years went on in Chicago, but Castro's still only 25 and could be a bargain if he falls to the later rounds.
