Report: Chelsea repelled Chinese offers of around £75M for Oscar

The Chinese Super League's splurge in the European market shows no signs of slowing, after Chelsea is believed to have shunned offers of around £75 million for Oscar in January.

The offer came from Jiangsu Suning, sources told Jason Burt of The Telegraph, the club who acquired Ramires from Chelsea for around £21 million last week and seems close to completing a £38-million transfer for Shakhtar Donetsk attacker and Liverpool target Alex Teixeira.

With Manchester City's Yaya Toure also potentially following a legion of stars that also includes Jackson Martinez, Fredy Guarin, and Gervinho to the Super League, it appears the aggressive business plan meant to boost the profile of Chinese football is far from over.

Considering that a £75-million move would have made Chelsea a tidy £56-million profit on the diminutive Oscar, it is quite remarkable that such a bid was turned down. Jiangsu, however, could pounce again in the summer when the Blues' domestic and European duties are over.

It's not just the transfer fees that are lucrative either: Oscar's former teammate Ramires is reportedly earning £10 million-a-year net.

Oscar has been one of Chelsea's more commendable performers of late, and the Brazilian will be expected to feature again when his side hosts Manchester United on Sunday.
