Brassard's 5-point game earns him plenty of milestones

Derick Brassard had a night to remember.

The New York Rangers forward buried two goals and added three assists in a 6-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night, and set some personal and league benchmarks in the process.

Brassard's five points equaled Washington Capitals center Evgeny Kuznetsov's output from a win over the Edmonton Oilers back in October, and the two players now share the highest single-game point total of the season.

It was also a career-high total for Brassard, who became the first Rangers player to record a handful of points since Ryan Callahan did so in 2011.

Brassard is the first Rangers player to notch four points in the third period of a game since Mark Messier accomplished that in 1992. Brassard collected two goals - including an empty-netter - and chipped in a pair of assists in the final frame.

He went five games without recording a point before Monday's outburst.

Brassard has 17 goals and 19 assists in 48 games this season.
