Ferrer heading to Round of 16 with defeat of Johnson in straight sets

Eighth-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer has advanced to the Round of 16 for the sixth consecutive year following Saturday's comprehensive straight-sets victory over American Steve Johnson, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.

Often overlooked in contrast to the other top-ten ranked men's players, Ferrer overwhelmed 31st-seeded Johnson, besting him in every statistical category save for average service speed, which the relatively diminutive Spaniard was happy to concede.

Ferrer dominated the match, breaking the American four times while never facing a break point himself, pairing a stellar 92 percent of net points won with first and second serve conversions of 78 and 83 percent.

The 33-year-old 2013 French Open finalist will now prepare to face another American, as towering John Isner stands in his way of a third quarterfinals appearance in the last six tries.
