Report: Fister mulling offers from multiple teams

Doug Fister could be the next free-agent starting pitcher to come off the market.

The right-hander is contemplating offers of one and two years from multiple teams, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

It's unclear which clubs have tabled offers to Fister, but Olney reported in November that the Detroit Tigers were interested in a reunion with the hurler, who spent three seasons in the Motor City from 2011-2013.

Olney also identifies the Baltimore Orioles as a team looking for pitching depth, and still active in the open market.

The 31-year-old was not extended a qualifying offer following a disappointing 2015 campaign with the Washington Nationals, so there is no draft-pick compensation tied to him. After finishing eighth in National League Cy Young voting in 2014, Fister was demoted to the bullpen last year, compiling a 5-7 record with a 4.19 ERA and 1.39 WHIP, while being limited to 25 appearances by a flexor strain.

Fister, along with righty Yovani Gallardo and southpaw Wei-Yin Chen, is one of the top starters still available via free agency.
