Report: Fernandez trade talks 'fading'

Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports

Jose Fernandez has been the talk of the winter meetings through the first three days, but it appears teams are now souring on the Miami Marlins ace.

Trade talks surrounding the right-hander are "fading," according to sources of CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

The Marlins' asking price has been understandably astronomical for their 23-year-old prized steed, and interested clubs haven't tabled an acceptable offer by Miami's standards to this point. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks are two teams believed to have engaged in talks to acquire Fernandez while in Nashville.

The Marlins were reportedly asking Arizona for southpaw Patrick Corbin, top prospect Dansby Swanson, and three others in a potential deal before the Diamondbacks targeted Atlanta's Shelby Miller.

Los Angeles was exploring the possibility of a three-team trade in order to satisfy Miami's trade demands, but nothing has come to fruition as of Wednesday evening.

Fernandez has a 22-9 record with a 2.40 ERA and 1.01 WHIP over 47 career appearances.
