Report: Dodgers talking possible 3-team trade for Fernandez

Howard Smith / USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers are refusing to accept that Jose Fernandez is unobtainable, and are going to great lengths to explore trade possibilities at the winter meetings.

Los Angeles has discussed involving a third team in order to satisfy the Miami Marlins' demands in a potential trade for Fernandez, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

The asking price is believed to be astronomical for the 23-year-old ace, and the fact the Dodgers are looking to involve a third party in trade discussions certainly verifies that.

Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said Fernandez wasn't available for trade Monday, but also noted the club will at least listen to trade offers this offseason.

Miami president David Samson also chimed in on the Fernandez trade rumors Tuesday night, stating about 20 teams have called regarding the hurler, but there is no major movement on a potential deal.

The New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, and a mystery team are also rumored to have touched base with Miami about the right-hander.

Fernandez - who may have an innings limit in 2016 as he eases back into action following Tommy John surgery - has a 22-9 record with a 2.40 ERA and 1.01 WHIP over 47 career outings.
