Chris Johnson's potential return to the field may have to wait until the postseason.

The Arizona Cardinals running back is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks of action after reportedly being diagnosed with a fractured tibia Monday, according to Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910.

With five weeks remaining in the regular season, and the Cardinals currently in position to earn a first-round bye, the short side of that timeline could have Johnson return in time for the playoffs.

Johnson has regained his Pro Bowl form in his first season with the Cardinals, leading the team with 814 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 196 carries.

Andre Ellington and rookie David Johnson will likely split lead backfield duties in his absence down the stretch, while Kerwynn Williams could provide additional depth if promoted from the practice squad to the active roster.
