Report: Pierzynski agrees to 1-year, $3M deal with Braves

A.J. Pierzynski is returning to Atlanta.

The 38-year-old catcher has agreed to terms with the Atlanta Braves on a one-year deal, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The deal is worth $3 million, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, and is pending a physical.

Rosenthal reports that it's a $2-million base salary and a $1-million signing bonus, with Pierzynski having an opportunity to earn another $1 million in incentives. He also writes that the veteran catcher turned down more money from other clubs to re-sign with Atlanta.

"This guy’s coming off a big year," president of baseball operations John Hart told reporters Monday at the general manager meetings. "We’ll see - he’ll see - he probably wants to determine what his market is. I think in his heart, I know he’d love to come back to the Braves."

Pierzynski caught 909 2/3 innings behind the dish for the Braves in 2015, committing two errors and catching 31.3 percent of base-runners who attempted to steal on him.

He also proved to still be an offensive threat, hitting .300/.339/.430 with nine home runs and 49 RBIs.

The two-time All-Star owns a career .282/.321/.424 hitting line with 186 home runs and 886 RBIs across 18 seasons, winning a World Series title with the Chicago White Sox in 2005.
