Depleted Pelicans without Davis, Asik, Holiday vs. Thunder

The New Orleans Pelicans will only have nine healthy players when they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday.

Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry announced prior to tipoff that power forward Anthony Davis (shoulder), point guard Jrue Holiday (rest), and center Omer Asik (illness) will not play.

Davis gave it a shot during warmups, but is still experiencing discomfort and soreness and is having trouble raising his arm.

Davis sustained the injury during Tuesday's loss to the Denver Nuggets, which made for his 16th injury over the past three seasons. He's a rising star in the league, but has yet to play even 70 games in a season.

The Pelicans are also dealing with injuries to starting guard Tyreke Evans, and backups Norris Cole and Kendrick Perkins.

For what it's worth, the Thunder are short Kevin Durant themselves, but they have far more depth and a one-man wrecking crew in Russell Westbrook to make up for his absence.
