Embattled FIFA president Sepp Blatter has been hospitalized in Switzerland after news emerged last week that the 79-year-old was feeling unwell due to a stress-related illness, reports Sky Sports.

Blatter's spokesman, Klaus Stohlker, told Sky Sports that Blatter's "brain and heart were fine, but his body was letting him down." He admitted himself in on the advice of his doctors and is currently undergoing tests.

"He is in hospital but he has just been told to relax for a few days and he will be back to work on Tuesday," Stohlker said. "His most important message is that he is fully preparing himself to go ahead with his fight against his 90-day suspension. He is deeply convinced that the ethics commission cannot force him out.

"He said to me yesterday, 'I was elected president by the 209 members of the Congress and no commission can put me out of the game.' He's fighting against this suspension."

The exact cause of his hospitalization was not revealed, but the Telegraph reports that Blatter may have suffered a "small emotional breakdown" resulting from the recent scandals that have surrounded himself and FIFA.

Blatter is currently serving a 90-day suspension alongside UEFA president Michel Platini for their role in FIFA's ongoing corruption scandal, and the two face a number of corruption charges currently being investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice, too.
