Peyton Manning won't play Sunday vs. Bears; Brock Osweiler to start

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has been officially ruled out of Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears, with Brock Osweiler set to start in his place, head coach Gary Kubiak announced Monday.

It was reported earlier Monday that Manning was dealing with a torn plantar fascia in his right foot, an injury that was aggravated in Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kubiak said there is no timetable for Manning's return, but he will not practice this week and will only receive treatment on his injury.

"I know that's the best decision for (Peyton), to get him back and healthy," said Kubiak, blaming the grind of the season for Manning's injury woes.

The coach expressed confidence in Osweiler's ability to fill in for Manning.

"He went in there and played with a lot of confidence. I know he'll do a great job."

In a game that should have been cause for celebration after Manning broke the all-time passing yards record, he instead threw four interceptions and was benched for Osweiler, who led several scoring drives in relief.

The head coach expressed regret after the game about letting Manning play against the Chiefs.

With Osweiler starting, Trevor Siemian will act as his backup.
