Nathan MacKinnon is developing into the kind of player the Colorado Avalanche expected when they drafted him first overall in 2013.

The 20-year-old dropped a devastating spin move on New York Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi before firing a shot past Henrik Lundqvist for a highlight-reel goal Friday night.

The goal was MacKinnon's sixth in 14 games, putting him on pace to shatter his previous career high of 24.
