The Kansas City Royals are World Series champions and it was Wade Davis, not Greg Holland, throwing the last pitch of the season.

Davis sat down Wilmer Flores for the last out of the game, stunning a Citi Field crowd that watched as their home town New York Mets coughed up a late two-run lead.

Davis moved into the team's closer role in September after Holland was sidelined for the year with a tear in his right ulnar collateral ligament.

The 30-year-old Davis, who was a toss-in as part of the James Shields trade in 2012, earned an 8-1 record with a 0.94 ERA, while collecting 17 saves in 18 chances in the regular season.

He was almost untouchable in the postseason, allowing no runs and six hits in 10 2/3 innings pitched.
