VIDEO: Cain says he screamed at Murphy on basepaths

Daniel Murphy's eighth-inning error is already being called the second costliest error in World Series history, but there may have been an external factor to blame.

Lorenzo Cain admitted after the Kansas City Royals' 5-3 win that he screamed at the New York Mets second baseman as he ran past him on the basepaths with the intent to distract him.

Cain drew a walk before Eric Hosmer's slow chopper found its way under Murphy's glove, but it's unclear if the shouting played a factor in the error. A dejected Murphy did not address Cain after the game, and it may have just been white noise with the packed house at Citi Field.

"I misplayed it," Murphy said. "There's no excuse for it. And we lost the ballgame because of it."
