DFS: Week 8: NFC Target Tracker

Chuck Cook / USA TODAY Sports

Here's a team-by-team look at the most targeted players in the NFC through Week 7 (click here for AFC targets):

Arizona Cardinals

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Larry Fitzgerald 5 59 8.42
John Brown 6 51 7.28
Michael Floyd 4 30 7.28
David Johnson 2 21 3
Darren Fells 0 (inactive) 12 2.4

The pass offense in Arizona is efficient and effective thanks to Carson Palmer but DFS players will struggle to pick the successful receiver week in and week out. Fitzgerald, Brown, and Floyd give Palmer plenty of options in combination with a strong run game.

Atlanta Falcons

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Julio Jones 17 89 12.7
Devonta Freeman 3 44 6.28
Leonard Hankerson 0 (inactive) 39 6.5
Jacob Tamme 6 31 4.42
Roddy White 4 25 3.57

Jones and Freeman are the options in both cash and GPP games, while Hankerson should be reserved for GPP formats only. Aside from that trio, there are no other DFS options here.

Carolina Panthers

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Greg Olsen 5 50 8.33
Ted Ginn Jr. 8 37 6.16
Devin Funchess 2 20 3.33
Corey Brown 5 18 3
Jerricho Cotchery 1 12 2.4

Carolina ranks 29th in league passing averaging just under 200 yards a game. DFS players should only select a Carolina receiver in GPP games, but tight end Olsen is an option in both cash and GPP contests.

Chicago Bears

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Martellus Bennett 0 (BYE) 53 8.83
Eddie Royal 0 (BYE) 33 6.6
Matt Forte 0 (BYE) 32 5.33
Marquess Wilson 0 (BYE) 30 5
Alshon Jeffery 0 (BYE) 22 11

The Bears host the Vikings after a bye week. Jeffery and Bennett see plenty of targets giving them both a great opportunity to produce every week.

Dallas Cowboys

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Jason Witten 8 45 7.5
Terrance Williams 7 40 6.66
Cole Beasley 2 29 4.83
Darren McFadden 2 15 2.5

The story in Dallas is the emergence of McFadden in the backfield. However, a matchup against Seattle in Week 8 may compel players to fade Dallas entirely.

Detroit Lions

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Calvin Johnson 7 68 9.71
Golden Tate 6 62 8.85
Lance Moore 1 29 4.14
Eric Ebron 5 28 5.6
Ameer Abdullah 0 25 3.57

Johnson is a reliable option regardless of how inept the Lions seem to be. At the tight end position, Ebron is a great option with three touchdowns in five games.

Green Bay Packers

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Randall Cobb 0 (BYE) 48 7.83
Richard Rodgers 0 (BYE) 30 5
James Jones 0 (BYE) 29 4.83
Ty Montgomery 0 (BYE) 19 3.8
Davante Adams 0 (BYE) 15 5

The Packers have a bevy of options at the receiver position, making it hard to pick the right one on a weekly basis. Jones seems to be the best bet to see the end zone. Adams should return from ankle injury this week.

Minnesota Vikings

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Mike Wallace 5 38 6.33
Kyle Rudolph 2 30 5
Stefon Diggs 9 28 9.33
Jarius Wright 6 19 3.16
Charles Johnson 2 10 2.5

Diggs has exploded onto the scene and could make for a decent contrarian GPP play in Week 8. Aside from him, the Vikings passing offense should be faded.

New Orleans Saints

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Brandin Cooks 13 58 8.28
Willie Snead 7 45 6.42
Benjamin Watson 5 38 5.42
Mark Ingram 2 32 4.57
Marques Colston 3 31 5.16

The Saints' offense is third in the league, averaging 297 yards per game. However, Brees does a great job at spreading the ball around - making it hard for DFS players to guess which receiver to select. Ingram provides a solid option at running back in PPR formats.

New York Giants

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Odell Beckham Jr. 6 66 9.42
Larry Donnell 5 40 5.71
Rueben Randle 5 37 5.28
Shane Vereen 3 31 4.42
Dwayne Harris 2 21 3

Beckham Jr. is the best option in New York and probably the only one DFS players should consider. However, he has only reached 80+ yards in two games this season. Randle is a passable GPP option at best.

Philadelphia Eagles

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Jordan Matthews 7 63 9
Zach Ertz 8 42 6
Darren Sproles 10 35 5
Riley Cooper 0 23 3.2
Nelson Agholor 0 (inactive) 17 4.25

The Eagles' offense is so frustrating because of the potential it showed last year - and the futility it has displayed this year. In order to save yourself a headache, DFS players should fade and look elsewhere.

San Francisco 49ers

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Anquan Boldin 7 54 7.71
Torrey Smith 1 36 5.14
Vernon Davis 6 22 4.4
Quinton Patton 3 19 2.71
Carlos Hyde 0 15 2.14

Colin Kaepernick's deficiencies continue to limit the upside of Boldin, Smith, and Davis. Outside of Boldin in cash games, DFS players should fade here.

Seattle Seahawks

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Jimmy Graham 5 45 6.42
Doug Baldwin 3 34 4.85
Jermaine Kearse 4 30 4.28
Tyler Lockette 5 24 3.42
Marshawn Lynch 0 17 3.4

In Week 7, the Seahawks got away with a mediocre passing display thanks to the 49ers' struggles. At this point, Graham should be limited to GPP play while the other Seahawks receivers are not employable.

St. Louis Rams

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Jared Cook 4 32 5.33
Tavon Austin 7 32 5.33
Kenny Britt 2 24 4
Stedman Bailey 1 18 3

You have strayed too far from the pack if you are seriously considering selecting a Rams wideout. An argument could be made for Austin in a GPP game, but there are plenty of better options outside of St. Louis.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Mike Evans 12 45 9
Vincent Jackson 2 40 6.66
Charles Sims 3 22 3.66
Louis Murphy 1 18 3
Austin Seferian-Jenkins 0 (inactive) 10 2

Evans has out-targeted Jackson 17-5 in the past two games and caught his first touchdown pass of the season in Week 7. Murphy tore his ACL in Week 7 so look for even more targets for Evans, Jackson, and Jenkins.

Washington Redskins

NAME WEEK 7 TOTAL AVG
Pierre Garcon 6 57 8.14
Jordan Reed 13 47 9.4
Jamison Crowder 5 42 6
Ryan Grant 3 31 51.6
Andre Roberts 6 21 3.5

Reed had a productive return to the lineup, picking up two touchdowns in a 31-30 win for the Redskins in Week 7. Speedster DeSean Jackson should return in Week 8, providing the 'Skins a deep threat and - DFS players a very intriguing option as a contrarian and GPP play.
