Martin angered after being left off Rangers' playoff roster
The Texas Rangers' decision to leave Leonys Martin off the roster for the ALDS is not sitting well with the five-year veteran.
With the series shifting to Texas, the Rangers are set to introduce players during pregame who were left off the postseason roster. The gesture is a way of honoring their contributions during the regular season.
Those left off the 25-man roster, such as Nick Martinez, reported to Arizona in order to keep working out in case they were needed. Angered by the fact that he was not included on the playoff roster, Martin did not go to Arizona and will not be part of the pregame introduction.
"He did not report to Arizona," general manager Jon Daniels told Jeff Wilson of the Forth Worth Star-Telegram. "It was a very short-sighted decision."
Martin struggled through 95 games this season, hitting .219/.264/.313 with five home runs and underwent surgery to remove the hamate bone in his right hand in August. He was recalled in late September to serve as a pinch-running and defensive substitution.
The Rangers opted to include outfielders Shin-Soo Choo, Delino DeShields, Josh Hamilton, Drew Stubbs, and Will Venable over Martin.
The 27-year-old is under contract through the 2018 season.
