DFS: Dynamic Duos - Friday's Top Teammate Plays

Sergei Belski / USA Today

Friday's slate does not feature many star offensive pairings. Without names like Kessel, Crosby, Seguin or Benn, the combo options are a little lesser-known.

Here are the dynamic duos to target for Friday:

Chicago Blackhawks at New York Islanders

Jonathan Toews - Marian Hossa

This is likely to be the top combo of the night as these two come with a proven track record and provide both a high floor and ceiling you expect from elite players. However, this combo will put a massive dent in your salary cap.

Toews and Hossa both tallied assists on linemate Teuvo Teravainen's goal in Wednesday's season opener against the visiting Rangers. If you're looking to roster Toews at center and save some cash, then pairing Toews with Teravainen is an option - but that combo doesn't have the potency of Hossa and Toews.

You know what you're getting here with Toews and Hossa, but be prepared to search for value plays for the rest of your lineup.

Patrick Kane - Artemi Panarin

Chicago has enough depth for us to recommend another Blackhawks combo. This time Kane is included with fellow winger Panarin. Usually DFS combo plays incorporate a center and a winger. However, this recommendation selects two wingers because Kane is a must-own, while Panarin comes at a cheaper price than center Artem Anisimov; Panarin scored on an assist from Kane in the Blackhawks' season opener.

This stack is still relatively unproven so there isn't as much confidence here as with some of the other combos below.

John Tavares - Ryan Strome

On the other side, elite centerman, Tavares opens the 2015-16 campaign alongside Strome.

Strome and Tavares both hail from the same home town, played in the same minor league, and after Strome was drafted by the Isles, Tavares has mentored him through his first few steps in the NHL. This friendship is not necessarily something you can quantify, but it does bode well for chemistry between the two.

Their Friday matchup pins them against Chicago, which should have them motivated as they lineup against Toews and Hossa. Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford struggled on Wednesday in the first period giving up three goals in the first period, but shut the door in the second and third.

New York Rangers at Columbus Blue Jackets

Nick Foligno - Ryan Johansen

This combo is the hottest in the league if you put any stake in preseason hockey. The Jackets' top line of Foligno, Johansen, and Brandon Saad lit up the preseason - totaling 29 points - and have found instant chemistry.

Foligno had a career year last year after seeing an increase in ice time and looks to have taken his role as the Jackets captain seriously. Johansen put up 12 points in his four preseason games and also had a career high in points (45) last year.

The combo of Foligno and Johansen won't break your bank - and judging by their preseason, may have an extremely high ceiling if they get rolling. The one major drawback is their Friday matchup against Henrik Lundqvist. The Swedish star is one the elite goalies in the league but this poor matchup should scare some DFS players away.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Detroit Red Wings

Tomas Tatar - Brad Richards

This should be a low-owned and cheap combo play for Friday.

Tatar is one of those Detroit products that people tend to be unaware of though his play improves year after year; after recording 39 points in 2013-14, Tatar erupted for 29 goals and 27 assists last season.

Though Richards is past his prime, he does provide a veteran presence at center and will be expected to produce with Pavel Datsyuk out of the lineup until November. Richards has always been a reliable setup man throughout his career regardless of where he plays, and this year's stop in Detroit should provide similar results.

A matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs and Jonathan Bernier doesn't hurt their cause, either.

Arizona Coyotes at Los Angeles Kings

Jeff Carter - Tyler Toffoli

This combo recommendation is predominantly matchup based. The Arizona Coyotes are young, inexperienced, and expected to be a league bottom-feeder. Furthermore, the Kings had their butts handed to them in their season opener - losing 5-1 to San Jose - and should be motivated to make up for that performance.

Last year, the Kings took down the Coyotes three out of four times. Coyotes goalie Mike Smith went 0-2 against the Kings last year though he only gave up four goals in those contests.

Carter and Toffoli come at relatively low price and allow you to build a well-rounded team fit for either cash games or GPPs.
