DFS: Saturday's Center Value Rankings
Here's a look at theScore's center value rankings for Saturday October 10:
Value Rankings
C | W | D | G
# | NAME | OPPONENT | RISK |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Kyle Turris (OTT) | at TOR | Low |
2 | Tyler Johnson (TB) | at BUF | Low |
3 | Steven Stamkos (TB) | at BUF | Low |
4 | Evgeny Kuznetsov (WAS) | vs NJD | Low |
5 | Sidney Crosby (PIT) | at ARI | Low |
6 | Evgeny Malkin (PIT) | at ARI | Low |
7 | Tyler Seguin (DAL) | at COL | Low |
8 | Logan Couture (SJS) | vs ANA | Low |
9 | Henrik Zetterberg (DET) | at CAR | Low |
10 | Joe Pavelski (SJS) | vs ANA | Low |
You'll find the most value on this packed Saturday slate by targeting talented centers facing poor defenses and shaky goal-tending. Check those boxes off for Turris, who faces Leafs backup James Reimer, and Tyler Johnson, who will likely face Sabres backup Chad Johnson. Stamkos obviously has a higher ceiling but with his mega-watt DFS salary, Johnson will return more value - and will still play alongside Stamkos on power play units.
Kuznetzov will be even cheaper than Turris and Johnson; he'll center Alexander Ovenchkin and T.J. Oshie while Nicklas Backstrom recovers from an injury. The risk is that the young Russian center might not click with his veteran teammates but there is still enough firepower on Washington's top line for Kuznetsov to be very valuable.

23 | Aleksander Barkov (FLA) | vs PHI | Medium |

28 | Andre Burakovsky (WAS) | vs NJD | Medium |
29 | Tomas Plekanec (MTL) | at BOS | Medium |
30 | Filip Forsberg (NSH) | at EDM | Medium |
The rest of the top-20 is made up of dependable veterans who should feature heavily on power play units but will also face some decent goal-tending. McDavid is where things get interesting; the rookie will make his home debut in front of a rabid crowd but nerves and veteran netminder Pekka Rinne stand in the way of a fairy-tale start to a new era in Edmonton.
A cheaper alternative to McDavid is Florida's Barkov, who will center Jaromir Jagr and Jonathan Huberdeau against an easier goalie in the Flyers' Steve Mason. The trio have been building chemistry since the Panthers acquired Jagr last season and are a more stable play.

58 | David Krejci (BOS) | vs MTL | High |
59 | Artemi Anisimov (ARI) | vs PIT | High |
60 | Tyler Bozak (TOR) | vs OTT | High |
At the bottom of the center value rankings are some higher-priced players facing elite goalies/defenses and some cheaper options with very low ceilings. Johansen and O'Reilly are great players but face tough obstacles in Henrik Lundqvist and Ben Bishop. Boston's centers face an equally-daunting task in solving Carey Price, but neither Bergeron or Krejci have tallied elite point totals in recent history anyways.
And finally, if your only option financially is to pick the Leaf's Bozak you need to consider balancing out some of the pricier options in your lineup. Toronto's situation on offense is dire and it remains to be seen whether the center can establish chemistry with other players now that long-time line-mate Phil Kessel is playing with Crosby in Pittsburgh.
