Chargers release Donald Brown, promote Michael Ola

Kevin Hoffman / USA TODAY Sports

The San Diego Chargers have released running back Donald Brown and have signed offensive lineman Michael Ola from their practice squad, in a pair of corresponding moves.

The move to bring Ola up from the practice squad is presumably as insurance for the Chargers' offensive line woes, where they have four starters currently dealing with injuries.

Ola is a versatile player, who has experience playing all over the offensive line.

Brown, a former first-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts, was a free-agent acquisition in 2014, but failed to make an impact and slipped down the depth chart.

The running back has been inactive for all the team's games this season, despite being healthy.
