DFS: Week 4 AFC Target Tracker

Tommy Gilligan / USA TODAY Sports

Here's a team-by-team look at the most targeted players in the AFC through Week 3 (click here for NFC targets):

Baltimore Ravens

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
Steve Smith Sr. 17 40 13.33
Kamar Aiken 1 20 6.66
Justin Forsett 7 18 6
Crockett Gillmore 3 13 4.33

Smith Sr. has become a target monster by necessity in Baltimore. With no other proven pass-catching option, Smith Sr. has 33 targets in the past two weeks and is the third-highest targeted receiver in the league.

Buffalo Bills

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
Percy Harvin 8 18 6
Sammy Watkins 2 13 4.33
Charles Clay 7 16 5.33
LeSean McCoy 3 10 3.33

Harvin has put together three decent games relative to the Bills 24th-ranked pass game. Fantasy players are still looking for better production from Watkins - and to make things worse, he missed the second half of Week 3 with a calf injury that has him questionable for Week 4.

Cincinnati Benglas

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
A.J. Green 13 25 8.33
Tyler Eifert 3 20 6.66
Marvin Jones 8 16 5.33
Giovani Bernard 4 13 4.33

Green is returning to WR1 form after a disappointing Week 1. He was targeted 13 times in Week 3, which is what DFS players are looking for from a player of his calibre. The Bengals passing game predominantly runs through Green and Eifert.

Cleveland Browns

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
Travis Benjamin 10 17 5.66
Andrew Hawkins 6 16 5.33
Gary Barnidge 10 16 5.33
Taylor Gabriel 5 10 3.33

Outside of Benjamin, DFS players are going to be hard-pressed to find anything of value in Cleveland. Barnidge made headlines in Week 3 with 105 yards and a touchdown but he was going up against an Oakland defence that had been obliterated by tight ends in weeks previous.

Denver Broncos

NAME WEEK 2 TOTAL AVG
Demaryius Thomas 13 38 12.66
Emmanuel Sanders 9 35 11.66
Owen Daniels 9 16 5.33
C.J. Anderson 1 10 3.33

Targets in Denver still go two ways: Sanders or Thomas. Tight end Daniels saw a spike in Week 3 - garnering nine targets and converting one for a touchdown - but don't expect him or anyone else to challenge Sanders or Thomas for targets.

Houston Texans

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
DeAndre Hopkins 14 38 12.66
Cecil Shorts III 9 29 9.66
Nate Washington 9 28 9.33
Jonathan Grimes 4 13 4.33

Hopkins is the fifth-most targeted receiver in the league and has been a rewarding DFS pick in Weeks 1 and 3. Though Shorts and Washington have a high target average, neither is a great DFS option.

Indianapolis Colts

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
T.Y. Hilton 7 28 9.33
Donte Moncrief 7 26 8.66
Andre Johnson 1 18 6
Phillip Dorsett 3 12 4
Dwayne Allen 0 (inactive) 6 2

Targets are evenly dispersed in Indianapolis due to the proficiency of Andrew Luck. The biggest trend to notice here is the ineffectiveness of Johnson this year; Johnson was targeted once in Week 3 and has put up a meager 51 receiving yards so far.

Jacksonville Jaguars

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
Allen Robinson 9 27 9
Allen Hurns 4 15 5
T.J. Yeldon 3 11 2.66
Marqise Lee 2 6 2

Robinson is the main target in Jacksonville as expected, but besides Week 2 he has not been very rewarding in DFS. The Jaguars passing attack ranks 22nd in the league and needs to improve for any of the other options to become viable in DFS.

Kansas City Chiefs

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
Jeremy Maclin 11 27 9
Travis Kelce 10 21 7
Jamaal Charles 7 20 6.66
De'Anthony Thomas 2 8 2.66

Thanks to garbage time on Monday night, the Chiefs salvaged their offensive production. Maclin, Kelce, and Charles are the only three options in Kansas with Kelce and Charles being the most reliable.

Miami Dolphins

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
Jarvis Landry 13 35 11.66
Rishard Matthews 10 23 7.66
Jordan Cameron 8 19 6.33
Greg Jennings 3 11 3.66

Out of nowhere, Matthews has been the best receiver in Miami with respect to DFS. Though Landry has hit double digit targets three weeks in a row, Ryan Tannehill has still spread the wealth around.

New England Patriots

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
Juilan Edelman 11 42 14
Rob Gronkowski 7 28 9.33
Dion Lewis 5 19 6.33
Aaron Dobson 3 12 4
Danny Amendola 5 10 3.33

Edelman and Gronkowski have seen the majority of targets as expected. Lewis has been a surprising fantasy option through the first three weeks and is averaging an impressive 6.33 targets - making him an appealing FLEX option in PPR formats.

New York Jets

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
Brandon Marshall 14 33 11
Bilal Powell 8 17 5.66
Eric Decker 0 (inactive) 14 4.66
Chris Owusu 0 9 3

Marshall has been consistent through the first three weeks of the season working the short passing game with Ryan Fitzpatrick. Decker sat out Week 3 and may miss Week 4 as well. With Decker out, Marshall's value jumps even higher.

Oakland Raiders

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
Michael Crabtree 9 33 11
Amari Cooper 11 31 10.33
Latavius Murray 1 11 3.66
Mychal Rivera 1 8 2.66

Derek Carr has been fantasy gold the past two weeks if you had the guts to play him. Cooper and Crabtree have obviously been his main targets with both nearly hitting double digit targets in each of the first three weeks.

Pittsburgh Steelers

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
Antonio Brown 13 35 11.66
Heath Miller 3 16 5.33
Darrius Heyward-Bey 3 15 5
Markus Wheaton 3 14 4.66

The knee injury to Ben Roethlisberger should put a significant damper on the effectiveness of all the Steeler receivers. Brown was a DFS must regardless of format but that status may be tested going into Week 4.

San Diego Chargers

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
Keenan Allen 18 39 13
Danny Woodhead 4 17 5.66
Stevie Johnson 5 17 5.66
Ladarius Green 0 (inactive) 12 4

Allen eclipsed his Week 1 target total of 17 by the slimmest of margins in Week 3. These totals make it hard to read into his extremely poor showing in Week 2 where he caught two balls on four targets. As the only legitimate receiver in San Diego, expect high target totals on a regular basis.

Tennessee Titans

NAME WEEK 3 TOTAL AVG
Kendall Wright 12 20 6.66
Harry Douglas 6 16 5.33
Delanie Walker 10 13 4.33
Justin Hunter 2 6 2

The receiving core in Tennessee should probably be avoided by DFS players. Wright and Walker are the better options but neither is that appealing as of right now.
